About Us
Making Mondays Magical
Every child deserves a learning environment where they feel understood, supported, and empowered to succeed. Every parent should be able to send their child to school, knowing that they will be seen, known, celebrated and supported to grow socially and academically to their full individual potential. Yet, for many families, their experience with education has been anything but supportive and inclusive.
Each Sunday evening, countless parents and kids across Waterloo Region dread Monday morning, because Monday means a new week of school. And the weeks can seem unending.
Parents and grandparents who have watched their children fall through the cracks of a broken educational system know that there has to be a better way. They don’t know if the personalized, compassionate, and innovative learning solutions they’ve dreamed of for their bright and quirky children exist. Their hearts are broken for their exhausted and isolated children, knowing that as much as they try, they just can never seem to succeed or get things quite right.
As collaborative education partners, at AIM KW and Beechwood Brainery, we believe that no child should have to dread Monday mornings. We recognize that each child has unique gifts, and our schools exist so that no child or family needs to fall through the cracks of a broken educational system. Our unique learning models and innovative micro-schools have been created to provide education as unique and inspiring as the children who receive it.
Our schools are life-giving to students who need an individualized approach to unlock their potential.
Each year we watch kids as they transform, learn, grow and love showing up for school on Monday mornings because they’ve found the place they belong.
But, even as we remove educational barriers, families still experience financial, systemic, and emotional barriers that prevent them from accessing the education their children need to thrive. In Ontario, no public funding is made available to private schools, like AIM KW or Beechwood Brainery, despite the enormous educational gaps they fill in our community.
Introducing Colleen Cares: A Legacy of Love and Learning
Enter a very special Grandmother named Colleen. As Colleen experienced the transformational power of the unique educational model of AIM KW, she realized that it was what her own family members had needed, and didn’t have access to in decades past. Colleen dreamed that children in Waterloo Region would have access to the education they deserve, and barriers would be removed. She believed that it was possible, and that others needed to be invited to be part of the solution.
In 2024, the Colleen Cares Foundation was established in memory of Colleen, who passed in 2023. As the founders of AIM KW and the Beechwood Brainery carry this mission forward and remove barriers to education for dozens of children across Waterloo Region each year, Colleen’s dream is realized.
Colleen Cares is more than a charitable foundation—it’s a movement to ensure children across Waterloo Region can start loving school, access the education they need, and build a community of belonging, with as few barriers as possible. Named in honor of this passionate advocate for inclusive education, Colleen Cares will provide financial aid, program funding, and essential resources to help children and their families thrive at AIM KW and Beechwood Brainery.
Through Colleen Cares, our community is coming together to:
Provide tuition assistance for families who otherwise could not afford individualized and supportive education.
Fund mental health and wellness programs, including music therapy, art therapy, and support services that help students flourish.
Support low teacher-student ratios and innovative teaching methods that foster creativity, confidence, and self-directed learning.
Invest in training, and classroom resources to enhance our students’ educational experiences.
Provide diagnostic testing and support for students who would benefit most from insight into their unique learning styles and educational needs.
Expand our reach, so more children in Kitchener-Waterloo can benefit from personalized, student-centered education.
